Job Description
We are looking for a highly skilled Section Engineer to join our team on a large highways project in Gloucester. This role is crucial to the successful delivery of specific sections of the project, providing technical and engineering support across designated work areas. With a contract length of 6-12 months, you will play a key role in ensuring that works are carried out in compliance with design specifications, safety regulations, and project timelines.
You will work closely with the Site Engineers, Project Manager, and subcontractors to drive the successful completion of this large-scale infrastructure project, requiring proven experience in highways engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
- Section Leadership: Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of construction activities within your assigned section of the project.
- Setting Out & Surveying: Ensure precise setting out and alignment for roads, drainage, utilities, and structures using GPS and total station equipment.
- Technical Support: Provide technical guidance to site teams and engineers, troubleshooting design and construction issues.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure that all works in your section meet the project’s quality control standards and specifications, conducting inspections and tests as necessary.
- Health & Safety: Enforce compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations on site, promoting a strong safety culture.
- Progress Monitoring: Track the progress of work against the project schedule, reporting daily to senior management and highlighting any potential delays.
- Liaison: Work closely with subcontractors, designers, and stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of your section with the overall project.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of site activities, including progress reports, risk assessments, and as-built documentation.
- Problem Solving: Proactively identify and resolve any issues that arise, coordinating with design teams and subcontractors to ensure timely resolutions.
Required Experience & Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in highways or civil engineering, with at least 2 years in a Section Engineer role on large infrastructure projects.
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in setting out and using surveying equipment (GPS, total stations) and interpreting technical drawings.
- Highways Knowledge: In-depth understanding of highways construction processes, including earthworks, drainage, road surfacing, and structures.
- Qualifications: Degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
- Certifications: CSCS card is required; SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) is preferred.
- Software Proficiency: Competent in using AutoCAD, and project management software.
- IR35 Compliance: Role is inside IR35, requiring PAYE or umbrella company engagement.
