Senior CE&I Engineer – Safety Systems / Engineered Protection Systems

We’re seeking a Senior CE&I Engineer to join the MSSS SEP Machines project at Hinton House, Warrington – supporting the delivery of complex, safety-critical systems for one of the UK’s leading nuclear programmes.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the design and substantiation of engineered protection systems, contributing directly to the SEP1 Design Justification Report. You’ll be part of a collaborative, high-performing team tackling some of the most technically challenging CE&I problems in the sector.
The Role
- Deliver work packages across a broad CE&I scope on all three SEP Machines.
- Produce and/or check safety system deliverables supporting nuclear safety cases.
- Develop and review functional safety design substantiation for systems up to SIL1, in line with IEC 61508.
- Provide fit-for-purpose design solutions, ensuring alignment with cost, schedule, and quality targets.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, integrators, and project teams across disciplines.
Essential Experience
- Nuclear experience is essential – Sellafield project experience highly desirable.
- Preferred CEng/IEng status (or equivalent).
- Proven background in Functional Safety and Safety Case substantiation.
- Working knowledge of CDM, PUWER, BS13849/62061, BS7671, and UKCA/CE requirements.
- Skilled in checking engineering drawings and applying relevant standards.
Desirable
- Experienced in design risk assessments, method statements, and O&M documentation.
- Familiar with PLC/SCADA systems and industrial network architecture.
- Strong problem-solving ability with an evidence- and risk-based engineering mindset.

Senior Control Engineer – Software Bias | Nuclear

We’re recruiting for a Senior Control Engineer to join a major nuclear project based in Warrington, supporting the SEP1 & 2 programmes. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to one of the UK’s flagship Sellafield projects, working on complex, safety-critical control systems in a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.
What you’ll be doing:
- Delivering, co-ordinating, and checking control-based work packages across multiple systems.
- Leading and guiding engineers to achieve demanding technical milestones (no line management responsibility).
- Developing design specifications and providing expert support during implementation.
- Reviewing and challenging control system requirements to ensure robust, compliant designs.
- Collaborating with system integrators, commissioning teams, and other key stakeholders.
What we’re looking for:
- Proven experience in PLC/SCADA control systems and network architecture.
- A strong software engineering bias, ideally with nuclear sector experience – Sellafield experience is highly desirable.
- Capable of prioritising workloads in a dynamic project environment.
- Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.
- CEng/IEng status or equivalent experience would be advantageous.

Control & Instrumentation Engineer – SEP 1/2/3 Projects (Sellafield)
£45-50ph | Inside IR35 | Hybrid – Warrington (3 Days Office / 2 Remote)
We’re looking for a Control & Instrumentation Engineer to join the SEP 1/2/3 projects supporting Sellafield’s Major Site Systems. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on complex, safety-critical control systems within one of the UK’s most advanced nuclear programmes.
You’ll play a key role in designing, delivering, and supporting CE&I solutions across multiple systems, ensuring that all instrumentation and control functionality meets stringent nuclear safety and reliability standards.
The Role
- Deliver and support C&I design packages across the SEP Machines portfolio.
- Develop, review, and implement control and instrumentation system designs.
- Liaise with system integrators, engineers, and stakeholders to resolve technical queries.
- Support testing, commissioning, and verification of control systems.
- Ensure compliance with functional safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
What You’ll Need
- Proven nuclear industry experience – ideally with Sellafield Ltd.
- Strong Control & Instrumentation engineering background.
- Understanding of PLC/SCADA systems, industrial networks, and instrumentation.
- Experience of producing or checking CE&I deliverables within a safety-critical environment.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
