We are looking for experienced Lead Engineers to join our large team of controls & automation engineers across multiple locations within the UK

The role

You will work through the whole lifecycle of the project from completing design documentation, developing control software, testing, commissioning and handover. You will be working on complex control system projects on your own or leading a team of 3-5 engineers to meet an agreed programme of works.

During the design and software development stages, you will work in our office or work from home (hybrid working) on the development of Functional Design Specification and PLC, HMI, SCADA software until the bench testing is completed. Integrated testing with the control panel will be in our manufacturing facility in Warrington where you will be engaging with both SI and LV engineering delivery teams and multiple client stakeholders to complete the FAT. Commissioning will be based on our client sites where the SAT will be completed.

If you are acting as a lead on a team of engineers, you will manage the efficient workload and progress of your team members and will work closely with the Project Manager to meet contractual project milestones. You will review the design documents and test the software developed by your team members.

  • Interpreting User Requirement Specification packages and reverse engineering of exiting control system software
  • Production of functional design specifications, configuration of PLC and SCADA packages, factory testing, site testing and site based commissioning.
  • Coordination and development of junior staff as required
  • Lead Large SI Projects
  • Monitor/plan projects to ensure completed to time and budget
  • Act as Engineering Coordinator on projects when required, coordinating disciplines within overall Technology division
  • Ensure Engineering and Design activities meets all national and international standards, clients requirements and ‘best’ engineering practice
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction

Special Features

  • Should have a minimum of 8 years systems engineering experience.
  • Strong knowledge of safe working practices with regards to work on or near electrical equipment.
  • High regard for health and safety.
  • Must have good organisational skills.
  • Needs to have good communication skills at all levels.
  • Must be positive, approachable, willing and helpful.
  • Must be a good team player.

Skills and Knowledge

  • PLC software development using at least two manufacturers devices from Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Mitsubishi or Schneider.
  • HMI software development using at least two manufacturers devices from Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Mitsubishi or Schneider.
  • Experience with multiple communication protocols; EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, PROFIBUS DP and PA, Modbus TCP/IP
  • Experience working with SCADA systems
  • Experience working with VSDs
  • Knowledge and experience in virtual machines (VMWare)
  • Good planning, organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent IT skills including the use of Microsoft Word & Excel
  • Ability to act on own initiative.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within and outside the organisation.

Our client has an immediate need for a Building Surveyor to work on contracts across the south-west, south-east, the midlands and London regions.

The Position

This exciting role has developed through continual growth and the award of new contracts. As part of your role, you will be required to:

  • Liaise with high-level ranks within the MOD
  • Survey the work involved, collate the information and deliver internally for design purposes
  • Conduct feasibility studies and scoping of work, with the view to take through to planning / building regulation stage
  • Work on projects valued at between £100,000 and £10Million
  • Work on a variety of schemes ranging from administration blocks, accommodation blocks to security fencing
  • Be involved with contract administration
  • Conduct on-site supervision of the designated sub-contractor

If you have experience and qualifications in the following and a desire to work on MOD contracts within a private consultancy, then this role could be just for you. You will have: –

  • Previous experience of working in the capacity of a Building Surveyor
  • Chartered status (or working towards)
  • Previous experience of working on MOD contracts

  • Understanding of JCT or NEC Forms of contract as this will be the basis for understanding MOD-style contracts
  • Experience of overseeing the site-based work conducting by the designated sub-contractor
