MEICA Engineer – Outside IR35 – £420-£450/day
Location: North West Region (hybrid/site-based as required)
Duration: 5-Year Framework
We are seeking an experienced MEICA Engineer to support a major long-term framework across the North West, focused on the delivery of large-scale on-site asset maintenance activities within water, wastewater, and energy production systems. The role includes ensuring maintenance requirements are accurately captured and delivered in accordance with the Managed Services Provider (MSP) Framework procedures.
This is a contract opportunity outside IR35, offering a day rate of £420 to £450.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Acting in a professional and proactive manner at all times
  • Engaging with United Utilities (UU) personnel to gather and record accurate work requirements
  • Assessing work scope and engaging relevant disciplines and partners
  • Applying appropriate risk profiles and framework procedures to each task
  • Collaborating closely with supply chain partners to align resources and work type
  • Supporting delivery teams to ensure timely and accurate flow of information
  • Coordinating with schedulers to programme works effectively
  • Reviewing RAMS and ensuring compliance with SHEQ standards
  • Validating that scope is appropriate, identifying risks and opportunities
  • Driving efficiencies and proactively identifying process improvements
  • Resolving blockers where possible and escalating unresolved issues
  • Maintaining 100% compliance with SHEQ and CDM regulations
  • Communicating effectively with all stakeholders
  • Supporting team members to achieve shared objectives

About You

  • Solid understanding of clean and wastewater treatment works and associated assets
  • Confident communicator, including with senior engineers and stakeholders
  • Strong engineering background with sound problem-solving skills
  • Excellent prioritisation and organisational capabilities
  • Knowledge of site-based delivery and buildability considerations
  • Commercially and contractually aware
  • Familiar with SHE documentation and CDM requirements
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the water sector in a mechanical/electrical capacity (maintenance or capital delivery)
  • Qualified to HNC/HND or degree level in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Holder of SMSTS qualification

Site Engineer

Job Title: Freelance Site Engineer
Location: Just Outside Manchester
Contract Type: Freelance (Inside IR35)
Day Rate: £450 per day
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: Until January 2026


Project Overview:

We are currently looking for an experienced Freelance Site Engineer to support a major civil engineering project located just outside Manchester. This long-term role, running through to January 2026, is ideal for a driven and technically capable engineer with expertise in reinforced concrete structures and groundworks.
The position is offered inside IR35, with a day rate of £450. Immediate start available.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Setting out and surveying for reinforced concrete structures
  • Coordination and oversight of bored piling and/or sheet piling operations
  • Supporting the implementation and supervision of temporary works
  • Assisting with utility diversions and breaking ground activities
  • Ensuring works are carried out in line with technical drawings and specifications
  • Maintaining QA records, site diaries, and as-built documentation
  • Liaising with subcontractors, engineers, and the project management team
  • Promoting and ensuring high standards of health and safety on site

Requirements:

  • Strong background in reinforced concrete construction
  • Experience in piling techniques and temporary works coordination or supervision
  • Previous involvement in utilities diversions and excavation activities
  • Proficient in setting out using total station/GPS equipment
  • Solid understanding of technical drawings and site documentation
  • CSCS card (Essential)
  • SMSTS/SSSTS (Desirable)
  • Eligible to work in the UK and operate under IR35

Section Engineer

Job Title: Section Engineer (x2)
Project: Major Highway Scheme – Manchester
Location: Manchester (site-based)
Contract Type: Contract (Inside IR35)
Duration: 6 Months (with potential for extension)

Overview:

We are currently looking for two experienced Section Engineers to join the early-stage delivery team of a major highways project between Manchester and Sheffield. These roles are critical to supporting the enabling and early construction phases of the scheme, working closely with the Sub Agent and Site Agent to ensure effective site management and technical execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate day-to-day site engineering activities across designated work sections.
  • Manage and mentor a team of site engineers and supervise subcontractor operations to ensure performance and compliance.
  • Support safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of works in line with project plans and specifications.
  • Carry out setting out, engineering control, QA checks, and maintain comprehensive site records.
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of method statements, risk assessments, ITPs, and temporary works.
  • Liaise with internal teams, subcontractors, and client representatives to resolve issues and communicate progress.
  • Monitor progress, manage resources, and contribute to reporting on programme and productivity.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental legislation and best practices.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Section Engineer on major highways or civil infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrable background managing engineering teams and subcontractors in a live site environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of highways construction, groundworks, drainage, and associated early-stage works.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Valid CSCS card and SMSTS (or SSSTS) certification.
  • Temporary Works Supervisor and highways-specific training (e.g., NHSS) preferred.
  • Degree or HND in Civil Engineering or similar discipline.

Contract Details:

  • Inside IR35 – paid via umbrella company or PAYE
  • Duration: 6 months (with potential extension into main works)
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Competitive daily rate based on experience
