£375 per day | CIS Umbrella | Initial 4-Month Contract with Strong Scope for Extension
Our client, a Tier 1 contractor, is seeking an experienced General Foreman to join the team delivering a local county highways improvement scheme in Farrington Gurney, within the Bath & North East Somerset region.
This is a great opportunity to join a Tier 1 contractor with a confirmed pipeline of 5 further schemes across the Bath/Somerset region next year, offering genuine long-term security well beyond the initial contract.
The Role
- Supervising and managing construction works for the project team
- Ensuring the highest possible Health, Safety & Environmental standards are employed across all projects, adhering to the client’s health and safety and environmental policies and supporting a strong safety-first culture that’s integral to the client’s working environment
- Ensuring subcontractor compliance with the client’s standards at all times
- Allocating resource daily to ensure work activities are sufficiently resourced by competent persons
- Ensuring required plant, tools and materials are available for the working party, and flagging when stocks are running low to the Site Agent
- Reviewing working documentation to ensure content is sufficient and relevant to the tasks being carried out
- Accepting permits and including them in the work pack/issuing to the working party
- Carrying out Setting to Work of relevant operatives, working supervisors and subcontractors
- Delivering and recording Daily Activity Briefs/Pre-Job Briefs, end of shift debriefs, and Toolbox Talks
- Supervising operatives, working supervisors and subcontractors, including implementation of required health, safety, wellbeing, environment and quality standards
- Ensuring all works are covered by a safe system of working, with all necessary briefings carried out
- Reviewing records completed by operatives and working supervisors, and supplying records to the Site Agent
- Assisting the Site Agent with management and programming of works, and requirements for plant and materials
- Responsible for plant delivery sign-offs, checks/audits and utilisation
- Completing HSE inspections (minimum 2 per month)
- Ensuring relevant Codes of Conduct are respected and followed within the site team, leading by example
- Completing return to work and employee documentation as required
- Driving and implementing innovation ideas
- Attending progress meetings when required
- Reporting all HSE incidents to line supervisor
What You’ll Need
- SSSTS / SMSTS
- CSCS card
- UK/EEC driving licence
- Good level of experience in civil engineering and workforce supervision, including earthworks, drainage, structures and highways
- Previous experience working with a Tier 1 contractor
- Highways, traffic management, and utilities experience, including planning traffic management
- Experience managing operational teams
- Good team worker and communicator, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate with client and operational teams
- Adaptable to changing priorities
- Computer literate, with a basic understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Evidence of managing health & safety in construction

The Role
- Managing all engineering activities including engineering control, setting out, and providing direction to the workforce
- Leading quality control systems to ensure compliance with project design and specifications
- Assisting and managing the permit process, including CAT scanning and issuing permits
- Keeping accurate records including site diary, records of works activities, resource allocations, and as-built information using AutoCAD
- Surveying kerb lines and supporting highways construction, surfacing, and minor earthworks activities
- Ensuring the highest possible Health, Safety & Environmental standards are employed across all projects, adhering to company policy and actively supporting a strong safety-first culture that’s integral to the client’s working environment
What You’ll Need
- Good level of experience in civil engineering and workforce supervision, including earthworks, drainage, structures, and highways
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, QA processes, and site diary/record-keeping

Our client, a Tier 1 contractor, is seeking an experienced Site Agent to lead delivery of a local county highways improvement scheme in Farrington Gurney, within the Bath & North East Somerset region.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a Tier 1 contractor with a confirmed pipeline of 5 further schemes across the Bath/Somerset region next year, offering genuine long-term security well beyond the initial contract.
The Role
- Leading the site team, including supervision of the workforce and subcontractors
- Planning and supervising works, monitoring site activities against target programmes and reporting exceptions
- Planning, reviewing, and re-planning works using Microsoft Project or equivalent planning software
- Planning and managing traffic management arrangements, including MIT (Managed/Multi-phase Traffic Management)
- Carrying out daily site briefings and supervising subcontractor task briefings
- Ensuring adequate records are maintained through site photographs, daily diaries, and as-built drawings
- Monitoring all works activities to ensure compliance with the Works Specification and safe delivery
- Attending client meetings to provide delivery updates and manage issues
- Writing and maintaining the contract programme, and formal communications to clients and subcontractors
- Taking ownership of safety and environmental compliance throughout the scheme
What You’ll Need
- Strong civil engineering experience with proven workforce supervision
- Ideally, previous experience working for a Tier 1 highways contractor
- Experience working on NEC contracts
- Good commercial acumen
- Effective team management, leadership, and influencing skills
- Excellent customer and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to build strong relationships with all site and client contacts
- Highly organised, with the ability to remain flexible and juggle competing priorities
