Health & Safety Advisor – Nuclear

Reading | £55/hr Umbrella PAYE | Contract to End of 2026 | Potential Extension / Permanent | ASAP

• Location: Reading – fully site-based
• Rate: £55 per hour Umbrella PAYE
• Contract: Until end of 2026, with potential extension / view to permanent
• Hours: 42.5 hours per week
• Working Pattern: Monday-Friday, 8.5 hours per day
• Start: ASAP
• Security: BPSS to start, with SC uplift required

We’re recruiting for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to support a major nuclear project in Reading.
This is a site-based role providing hands-on Health & Safety support across the project, working closely with the HSW Manager to maintain high standards of safety, compliance and assurance.

The Role

You’ll provide visible, proactive Health & Safety support across the project, including:

• Carrying out site inspections, audits and assurance activities.
• Reviewing RAMS, method statements and risk assessments.
• Supporting accident and incident investigations, including causal analysis.
• Supporting external audits and the close-out of findings.
• Delivering Health & Safety inductions, training and presentations.
• Promoting safe working practices across employees and subcontractors.
• Supporting the implementation of Health & Safety management systems.
• Monitoring and supporting Health & Safety KPIs.
• Working closely with Environmental and Quality teams to maintain integrated compliance.
• Supporting the HSW Manager with wider project Health & Safety requirements.

Essential Requirements

• Previous Health & Safety experience within the nuclear sector – essential.
• NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent – essential.
• Strong knowledge of Health & Safety management systems and UK H&S legislation.
• Experience carrying out site inspections, audits and assurance activities.
• Experience reviewing RAMS, risk assessments and method statements.
• Experience supporting accident/incident investigations and causal analysis.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
• Must be eligible to obtain SC Security Clearance.
• Sole British nationality required – dual nationals cannot be considered due to project security requirements.

Desirable

• CMIOSH or working towards chartered status.
• Accident/incident investigation qualification.
• Train the Trainer qualification.
• Experience delivering H&S training.
• Experience on major construction or infrastructure projects.
• Environmental experience.

Nuclear Health & Safety experience is essential for this position.
