Working Hours: Monday-Friday, 08:00-16:00
Travel: Ad-hoc site visits, FATs and approximately 2-3 meetings per month at the Manchester office

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Principal EICA Engineer to join our team, working across a range of exciting water-sector framework projects.
This is a senior technical position, ideal for an experienced Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation (EICA/EC&I) professional who enjoys taking ownership of projects, providing technical leadership and working closely with clients, suppliers and project teams.
You will report to the Project Lead Engineer or take responsibility for leading projects, providing high-quality engineering solutions from design through to construction and commissioning.
Recent experience within the UK water sector is essential, ideally in a client-facing capacity.
Key Responsibilities
As Principal EICA Engineer, you will:
Produce cost-effective, practical design solutions that meet project specifications and can be successfully procured, installed and commissioned.
Develop outline electrical, instrumentation and control designs for water-sector contracts.
Undertake site surveys and investigations.
Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) at supplier premises and produce technical reports.
Review and ensure designs produced by both internal teams and subcontractors comply with project specifications.
Provide technical EICA/EC&I input, including the preparation, checking and approval of engineering documentation.
Ensure designs remain within budget and deliver the best overall technical and commercial outcome.
Allocate engineering work and monitor delivery against project programmes.
Ensure compliance with relevant UK and international standards, legislation, company procedures and client requirements.
Prepare equipment and material requisitions for EICA equipment.
Prepare installation scopes of work.
Review supplier quotations and produce technical bid assessments.
Provide technical support during construction and commissioning.
Work closely with clients, project managers, suppliers and wider engineering disciplines to ensure successful project delivery.
Essential Qualifications
Degree in a relevant engineering discipline such as Electrical, Electronic, Control or Instrumentation Engineering.
Relevant engineering apprenticeship qualifications will also be considered.
Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with a relevant professional body, or demonstrable progress towards professional registration.
Technical Experience
You will ideally bring:
15+ years’ engineering experience within the water sector or a closely related industry.
Recent UK water-sector experience is essential, preferably with significant client-facing responsibility.
Strong knowledge of engineering design practices and installation requirements.
In-depth knowledge of relevant UK legislation, standards and industry requirements, including WIMES.
Experience with equipment installed in potentially explosive atmospheres.
Knowledge of ATEX, PED, Low Voltage Directive, Machinery Directive and EMC requirements and CE marking of plant and equipment.
Strong understanding of risk identification, assessment, quantification and management.
Good knowledge of HSE requirements and safe engineering practices.
