Principal Engineer – Civil / Structural
      Remote/Hybrid Working – ideally 1-2 days/week Oxfordshire or Warrington
35 Hours Per Week | SC Clearance
      £60-61/hour Inside IR35

Help shape the infrastructure behind a safe and secure future.
We’re working to create a safe and secure world, together – and we’re looking for an experienced Principal Civil/Structural Engineer to play a key role in the delivery of complex infrastructure at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a senior engineer to take technical ownership of significant civil and structural design packages, supporting the refurbishment and development of subway systems within the 10 Dockyard site.
The role is full time, 35 hours per week, with hybrid working available. Ideally, you’ll be able to work 1-2 days per week from either Abingdon or Warrington, with project/site requirements dictating the remaining arrangements.

      The Opportunity
As Principal Civil/Structural Engineer, you’ll provide technical leadership across the design lifecycle, with a particular focus on complex services subways and routes.
You’ll lead the structural and civil engineering work associated with:

      • Refurbishment design proposals for existing subways within the 10D site
      • Development of new and alternative design solutions
      • Assessment of condition survey findings and development of remediation strategies
      • Integration of existing utilities with proposed works
      • Ensuring civil and structural design requirements are fully coordinated and satisfied
      • Supporting the engineering capability of new systems throughout the complete design lifecycle

You’ll act as a technical authority within the project, providing leadership to design teams and specialist subcontractors while ensuring solutions meet the required engineering, safety, quality and regulatory standards.

      Key Responsibilities
      You’ll be responsible for:

      • Leading and managing one or more technical design packages, ensuring requirements are met throughout the design process
      • Providing technical guidance, design assurance and review of subcontracted design work
      • Ensuring designs comply with specifications, technical regulations, legislation and applicable standards
      • Collaborating across engineering disciplines and with key stakeholders to integrate designs within the overall facility layout
      • Managing complex technical interfaces between existing and proposed infrastructure
      • Maintaining engineering configuration and design intent through effective change control
      • Providing expert advice to subcontracted design houses to support successful design development
      • Supporting the development and implementation of assurance and governance arrangements for subway remedial works and new designs
      • Collaborating with other design houses to coordinate proposed works and facilitate wider project requirements
      • Supporting project planning, project management and budgetary considerations
      • Ensuring design activities are delivered in accordance with company procedures covering engineering, health & safety and quality

      What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer who can demonstrate strong technical leadership within complex engineering environments.
      Essential Experience

      • Experience in the design of highly complex services subways, routes or similar infrastructure
      • Ideally, experience within a nuclear, defence or other highly regulated environment
      • Strong knowledge of civil/structural design and construction regulations, legislation and standards
      • Understanding of Principal Designer responsibilities under CDM
      • Experience substantiating Safety Functional Requirements (SFRs) where identified within systems to support a nuclear safety case
      • Demonstrable experience of technically managing complex design development throughout the design lifecycle
      • Ability to provide expert technical advice and guidance to subcontracted design organisations
      • Strong understanding of engineering design and safety practices relevant to the discipline and project environment
      • Experience working within BIM environments
      • Awareness of project planning, project management and budget management
      • Strong understanding of design, health & safety and quality procedures within complex engineering projects

      Qualifications

      • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
      • Chartered Engineer with membership of an accredited professional body, such as ICE, or working towards Chartered status
      • Significant relevant experience may also be considered

      Security Clearance
Due to the nature of the work, the successful candidate must be a sole UK national and be able to achieve and maintain UK Security Check (SC) clearance.

      Why This Role?
This is an opportunity to work at the forefront of major engineering programmes within one of the UK’s most important strategic infrastructure environments.
      You’ll have the opportunity to:

      • Take technical ownership of complex civil/structural engineering packages
      • Influence design solutions from concept through to delivery
      • Work alongside experienced multidisciplinary engineering teams
      • Support major infrastructure within a highly regulated nuclear environment
      • Provide technical leadership to specialist design houses
      • Play a direct role in delivering safe, robust and sustainable engineering solutions

If you’re a Principal or Senior Civil/Structural Engineer looking for a technically challenging role where your expertise can make a genuine difference, we’d like to hear from you.
